All You Need to Know About Eggs

 In Environment, Shopping

Eggs are a staple in most people’s diets. Like we always say, eating quality food means you’re taking another step toward healing.

This is especially true with eggs.

I’m sure you’ve seen all the different type of eggs out there

cage free
free range
organic
pasture raised
vegetarian fed

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but most of these nomenclatures are just dirty marketing, BS word trickery!

First of all, chicken are not vegetarians!! And feeding them like that just hinders them of essential nutrients they need and raises their inflammation that unfortunately goes to your egg.

So vegetarian fed on the carton is just a selling point to uneducated shoppers. Free range and cage free are inhumane ways to raise chickens

Eggs from “free range chickens”  and cage-free chickens, which despite the harmless wordplay, are inhumane ways of raising chickens that even “cage-free” are still confined in a super small space without being able to move freely

“Free Range” means that the chickens were able to see the sun for 1 hour a day in the best cases

This makes the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio misbalanced causing inflammation on them and the quality of the egg suffers.

What you should look for is PASTURE RAISED ORGANIC. Pasture raised chickens are in their appropriate environment eating species appropriate food. So they have a very well balanced omega-6 to omega-3 ratio, full of vitamins and minerals making eggs one of the most nutritious food for a balanced diet.

When you compare a pasture raised egg with any other type you can see the superior quality in the color and consistency of the yolks, the hardness of the shells, and the creamy taste.

Yes, pasture raised eggs are expensive but the quality is worth the price for our health, the health of the animals, and the health of the planet!

We love getting farm fresh eggs, but sometimes we can’t; currently our favorite store brand is Happy Eggs Co’s Heritage Breed (it comes in a blue carton) and we buy it at Sprouts.
